- The urban cowboys are children in the rougher and poorer neighbourhoods in Irish towns who keep their horses and ponies in the empty plots near their homes or who befriend ponies living in these lots and train them to be ridden. They turn to the animals to avoid domestic disputes and violence in the home. They love their horses and, in return, their horses love them back.
- On a sweltering day in August 2001, a stranger appeared in a crime-ridden Florida neighborhood known as "Cracktown." Armed only with his big ideas and determination, artist/urban designer/developer Michael E. Arth saved this slum from a date with the wrecking ball. Reborn as the Garden District, it is now a living laboratory demonstrating Michael's New Pedestrianism, an ecological and pedestrian-friendly vision for new towns and neighborhoods.
- Clondalkin is the western district of Dublin with a bad rep. It is inhabited by so called socials - the families of workers who lost their jobs when the crisis came to Ireland and they were forced to go on welfare. You can still find the culture phenomenon known as urban cowboys - teenagers who keep wild horses illegally. Dylan is a 14-year-old Dubliner. This young boy, with looks that would be more in place on a cover of a magazine (handsome, blue-eyed with long lashes) is going trough a rough patch in his life. His mother died suddenly last May. Before she passed away, she gave the boy money to buy his first horse. Despite the tragedy, Dylan quickly buys his dream horse. He names a white, small mare Shelly. It's the name of his mother. The film 'Urban Cowboys' is a portrayal of a boy living in a big city, whose world is centered around an exceptional horse that - in a way - became a replacement for his lost mother.
